Dachshund wheelchair, waste of time for paralyzed dog?

I have a six year old dachshund who recently went paralyzed in his hind legs. After bringing him to a vet, it was confirmed he would never regain movement in his hind legs, and we cannot afford surgery. We were given a little dachshund wheelchair. My question is, is it worth it? Am i prolonging the inevitable? He isn't physically in pain but is obviously very uncomfortable and saddened by his new situation. So, do I give it a shot, or just come to the terms with the unfortunate cards he has been dealt. Anybody have any experience with this? Thank you very much.
